Vocabulary Update - Menses AAC icons

A quick Google search for “AAC icons menstrual cycle” yields results that leave the searcher wanting. The first result is for icons that can be used when creating a website or document project; the 8th result was the first that I knew would yield AAC icon symbols - Open Symbols. I can imagine being the parent of a minimally or non-speaking teenager, searching for AAC icons that could help me understand and teach my child about menses and being frustrated. This is how the Vocab Pack “Menses” was developed.

This Vocabulary Pack is available to all and is located in the Health category in the 3rd column of the app. By default, it is not enabled. To enable the vocabulary go to Settings → Manage Vocab Packs → Health Topic Vocabulary and press “Add Topic to Board”. The low-tech core/fringe board can be downloaded from weavechat.com and from TpT (formally teacherspayteachers).

This Vocabulary Pack and accompanying core/fringe board contain nouns related to products used during menses (e.g., pad, tampon, period panty, menstrual cup), experiences (e.g., bloat, cramps, PMS), as well as anatomical body parts related to menses (e.g., vagina, breasts, ovary).
