Picture Messaging with Icons
Weave Chat AAC was developed with the idea that often times individuals who use alternative forms of communication are not able to easily communicate with their friends and family using text messaging. Many of the current AAC programs available require that a user copy & paste their message from the AAC app to the messaging app. Weave Chat wanted to change that and users can directly message using the icons available in the app.
This means, this app can be used like a traditional AAC application as well as a messaging application.

Grid Boards & a Scrolling Board
Weave Chat AAC is designed to be accessible on both phone and tablet devices, which means there are a variety of board/position formats available.
The default board (scrolling) is best used on a phone in vertical position or on a tablet in horizontal position.
Grid boards are designed in sizes 1x2 (2 positions) to 7x15 (105 positions). In addition, there are premade CORE 40 and CORE 100 position boards available.
All boards are completely customizable and any icon or category can be placed in any position on the board.
About the Creators
Weave Chat AAC was dreamed up during the pandemic and first became available in September of 2021. We consider the first 2ish years to have been our “beta phase” and we are only now (July 2023) a fully functional and feature-rich application with an ever growing vocabulary.
A key part of this application is speaking directly with users and implementing features they have asked to have available. In this way, many of the settings in Manage Image Board we’re designed as well as the ability to be able to share a picture message as text or as pictures to another application.
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) hand draws all of the picture symbols and loves to receive requests from users for images that are missing.
The “support” thread in the application is manned by the SLP (co-creator) of the application and the support email is generally answered by the software engineer (co-creator). Instagram (@weavechataac) DMs and messages are answered by the SLP with consultation from the engineer as needed.
The SLP has a Master’s degree from Towson University and holds a current MD license as well as her CCCs from ASHA.
